Sunset Point, known locally as Aşıklar Tepesi, lies just a short walk from the center of Göreme. It takes about 10–15 minutes on foot from the bus station, with a gentle uphill path. By car, the last section is a dirt road and parking is limited. Entry is usually free, though occasionally a small fee may be charged.
From the top, visitors enjoy a 360° panorama of Cappadocia Göreme town below, Uçhisar Castle in the distance, and the surrounding fairy chimney valleys stretching east to west. Light shifts dramatically throughout the day, transforming the scene into a natural canvas.
The highlight of Sunset Point is, as its name suggests, the sunset. As the sun dips, the rocks glow with golden, amber, and crimson tones, creating a cinematic atmosphere. Couples and photographers gather here daily to capture the view. For the best experience, arrive 30–45 minutes before sunset to find a good spot, as the area can get crowded.
Sunset Point is equally magical at dawn. Dozens of hot air balloons rise above Göreme Valley, filling the sky with color as the sun breaks the horizon. This makes it one of the best free spots to watch balloons in Cappadocia.
The viewpoint has simple terraces, benches, and sometimes a seasonal café offering tea and coffee. For photos:
Göreme Sunset Point is one of Cappadocia’s most iconic spots, offering unforgettable views of both sunrise with balloons and sunset over the valleys. It is the perfect place to end (or begin) a day in Cappadocia.
